A question?
Wéa answers about this destination: neighbourhoods, seasons, ideas.
When to go
Every season has its charm. Here's how to choose yours, depending on what you want to experience.
The dry season
Less rain and easier trails: the best time to hike to the Boiling Lake. And Carnival, Mas Domnik, livens up Roseau.
Early summer
It's warm, nature is lush and green and there are few visitors: perfect for diving and whale watching.
The rainy season
Frequent showers and waterfalls at their fullest. Around Independence Day, the World Creole Music Festival fills Roseau with music. It's hurricane season: go for a flexible booking.
Where to stay
The right neighbourhood depends on what you're after. Here are our favourite places to stay.
Roseau
The capital, on the Caribbean coast: the market, Creole houses and Trafalgar Falls nearby.
Portsmouth
In the north: Cabrits National Park and its fort, and the Indian River, explored by rowing boat.
Calibishie
On the northeast coast: a quiet village, golden-sand beaches and peaceful coves.
Soufrière
In the south: Champagne Reef, where volcanic bubbles rise from the seabed, and the Scotts Head marine reserve.
Our favourites
What we love there: its history, its landscapes, its flavours and its festivals. Take your time, it's all there to enjoy.
The Boiling Lake
In the heart of Morne Trois Pitons National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a challenging hike leads to this bubbling lake, one of the largest in the world. Go with a guide.
Ideal for hikers
Trafalgar and Emerald Pool
Twin waterfalls near Roseau, and an emerald pool in the middle of the forest: Dominica truly deserves its nickname, the nature island.
Ideal for nature lovers
Sperm whales
Off the Caribbean coast, Dominica is one of the few places where you can see sperm whales all year round.
Ideal for sea lovers
The Kalinago Territory
On the east coast, the Kalinago people, the first inhabitants of the Antilles, share their culture: basket weaving, food and traditional dances.
